Dog Bite Stats

Dog bite statistics are pretty hard to tie down.

That’s not to say there aren’t any, it’s just very often the case that the bite stats we do see can be skewed depending on the source or circumstances in which they were recorded.

For instance, if we take dog bite statistics based on people needing hospital attention, it would no doubt leave us under the impression that certain bigger dogs were more prone to bite. This wouldn’t be the statistic we were really seeing though. What we would learn from that stat is that the bites from certain bigger dogs will more commonly require hopsital treatment than those of smaller breeds. So in theory in a sample month, 5 Labradors could bite people and all may require treatment but in the same month Yorkshire Terriers could bite 25 people of which none would require treatment. If we were to take the hospital records as the pure statistic though we’d be left under the impression that Labradors bite more people than Yorkshire Terriers.

What we intend to do with this page is to acumilate as many dog bite statistics from as wide a variety of sources as we can in order to present the most balanced and acurate view we can arrive at. Therefore this page will constantly evolve as we bring new dog bite and dog attack statistics to light as possible.
