Staffygirl.

Yes i am biased and bigotted towards Bull Terriers and Bull dogs in general, if this offends you then you only have the irresponsible and/or naive dog oweners who purchase these animals to thank. As i said before i am respnding to situations and experiences i have been through. I have owned dogs all my life and therefore have enough experience to know that a bark or a growl does not constitute an attack. The Staffies/bulldogs that have attacked my dog made contact and if it was not for my own and my families quick thinking (kicking the dogs in question until the owners gained some semblance of control) he would not have come away with the slight grazes and cuts that he has done.
I would not condem any dog that stands over the height of 10cm as my own dog is 60cm at the shoulder. I would like to know what you mean by
"with people like you around who clearly have no idea of the breed", what exactly am i supposed to know about the breed that has eluded me for so long? What information could i possibly be missing about these dogs that would make it ok or acceptable for them to attack animals or children???
My dog is a Flat-coated Retriever cross Border Collie.
You mentioned that as a child you were bitten by a Westie and still have two lovely scars, do you think you would have been so lucky if it had been a Mastiff or a Staffie rather than a Westie???? Before you answer perhaps you should look up the harrowing story of two year old Paige Allison, or seven year old Chloe Ashman.
I never said it is ok for a dog to bite a childs face as long as it is small, in my opinion it is unacceptable for any dog to bite, however i think most parents would rather their child walk away with two small scars than not walk away at all. How many Westies or Retrievers have torn out childrens throats lately? If a child has been attacked by a dog would you not hope that as little damage as possible has been done? So you have two scars, i have two scars from when my Springer Spaniel bit me on my chin, i didn't need reconstrutive surgery for it, did you?
Your right my logic is strange to people like you, as i put the safety of children and other animals before my right to own a certain breed of dog.

Unbelievable how biased and bigotted your words are, it is just such people as you that I talk to on a regular basis who say 'my dog has been attacked lots of times by staffies'. I'd like to know just what you mean by 'attacked', as I would like to bet that most of these 'attacks' have been little more than a growl or bark in your dogs direction. With people like you around who clearly have no idea of the breed, would you condemn any dog that stands over 10cm, as your dog, which is clearly a small breed would not stand any chance against such a dog? By the way, what breed of dog do you have? As a small child I was bitten in the face by a westie when at a friends house and still have 2 lovely scars. Does it make it ok for this dog to bite a childs face because it is a small dog and therefore the damage is limited? What a ridiculous suggestion.

My staffy has been 'attacked' by which I mean bitten first on the face by an australian cattle dog and secondly had his ear punctured by a bull terrier, when we were simply walking past on the park and he had posed no threat whatsoever to either dog. At the end of the day dogs are dogs, and any dog is capable of attacking. It may be yours that attacks one day, although I suppose as your dog is small then this is acceptable somewhere in your strangely working logic??

I am sick to death of people saying these dogs are good, and would never hurt a fly. My dog has been attacked numorous times by these so called good dogs, and before anyone starts the owners of these dogs were not bits of kids who purchased them as status symbols. They were mature adults who did not understand through naivity what their dogs were capable of, or they did realise but did not care about the safety of other peoples beloved family pets. The elderly owner of one staffordshire bull terrier who attacked my dog on my own doorstep said "well it's never done that before" as the dog in question was running up my street to attack another dog, i mean are you kidding me?? Punish the deed and not the breed, so my dog has to be attacked before we find out the owner is irresponsible, it's a little bit late in the day then though. Or even worse a child has to be mauled or even killed before the dog is taken away and the owner banned, all because people think it is their right to own bull dogs and bull mastiffs. That is what you are advocating by saying punish the deed not the breed, something needs to happen like a child being scarred for life or killed before the deed can be punished. It's too late then, the door is being closed after the horse has bolted. People are putting their so called rights to own a certain type of dog because they love the breed when there are may other breeds out there to choose from, above the right of people to be safe in public. And before anyone says my dog is good, i'm a responsible dog owner etc let me ask you one thing, how am i supposed to know if i have never seen you or your dog before that you're a responsible dog owner with a good dog without getting close enough to find out? And then it may be too late for my children and my dog. Ok so more people/children are bitten by Labs or Poodles etc, why because more people own these types of dogs than own PitBulls. Staffies are popular breeds but i'm pretty sure there are more Retrievers, Labs and Alsations owned in Britain, so the statistics people use to defend these dogs are not put into context. Also how may Labradors or Retrievers or even Alsations have killed children? When i say killed i mean torn a childs throat out, or as was the case with a toddler in Germany partialy eaten a child. Also i am sick of owners blaming people like me for wanting these breeds banned, it's not my fault my dog has been attacked by these dogs. If you want to blame someone you should be blaming the people who own these dogs and give them a bad name by being irresponsible. All i am doing is reacting to situations and experiences that i have been through, and yes my dog has been attacked by other breeds of dog. Like for example a Collie, did it bother me, no, because he had more of a chance of defending himself against a collie. He would stand no chance as wouldn't many other dogs against a Pitt or a Mastiff, at the very least if he is going to be attacked i want it to be a leval playing field.

Chris. just wanted to say i have 3 pits, and i dont agree with you. my pits mean the world to me and if someone tried to take them away or anything like that i would flip.. i mean you are supposed to raise your pets and treat them just like you would treat your kids. no one can help that there are stupid people in this world that like to starve, beat, and fight their dogs, and it breaks my heart that these precious animals has to go through this hell that stupid people like micheal vick put these dogs through.. how would the human race feel if we tied them up and put them in the dark and beat them and starved them to death just because they killed someone or beat the hell outta someone, or done anyother crime? yeah they my be behind bars but they are not starved to death, and they dont put every person that looks like a killer,. behind bars so why do it to the dogs why take an innocent life for something that isnt the dogs fault they are only acting the way they were raised, and yeah my oldest dog is protective of me but he has never bitten anyone and he never will but i will tell you this my cocker spaniel is more aggressive than my pits, and it makes me sick to think that someone could just kill off this breed.. so CHRIS why dont you think before you speak.. it seems like to me you already dont have too many friends.. my dogs are my bestfriends and what would you do if someone wanted to kill your best friend? you wouldnt let them would you> didnt think so

Its a few chosen idiots that give the breed a bad name, pitbull type dogs happen to be one of the most loving, devoted, and most certainly loyal dogs a person can have.
Its a shame that they have been portrayed as some evil man-eating monsters, when in reality they are just a dog.... like any other.
yes they are powerful, and yes they are strong. but then any dog given the chance can do lots of damage...

You just have to view some of the youtube clips on pitbulls, and you will really see them in a different light.
As for the new German law, give me a break.

If the EU has its way, staffies, akitas, rotties, bullmastiffs, etc etc will all be banned.

Everyone will have to walk around with a chihuhua dressed in a ballerina skirt on a pink sparkly lead.
(although to be perfectly honest i would be more scared of the chihuhua!!!)

Ban the deed not the breed!!!!!!
